Wow what a week, trying to weed the garden, mow the yard,(I need to invent a solar powered lawnmower!!) and then cover the entire garden and flower beds this weekend from the frost, I’m glad I took the time to do so. (temp was 30 degrees on Monday morn), all while entertaining the kids!! Whew!
The veggie garden is going great,,will plant peppers, corn, beans, cukes, zucchini, and watermelon soon. I need to be absolutely sure the frost is done. My Iceberg lettuce is starting to form “mini” heads already and leaf lettuce and spinach will be giving up some leaves for salad in just a few weeks!!
Opening up the garden again for the first time in fifteen years is a ton of work, but it is giving me great satisfaction, and organic food for my family. I can not stress enough to everyone who may read this – Homesteading is simple,,it is not easy, but it is simple. My next project of building a chicken coop and getting some hens is still in the planning stages, many things I have to consider. I will post more on this at a later date.
Today is a day to get back in and do some tuning up of the garden and I will post some pics of the finished product.
I also have to sew my son’s sleeping bag back up,, Yep Rich can sew to, (by hand or machine!!)
Getting my glass jars and pressure cooker ready for canning is also a priority for this summer, I expect I will have to do canning at least once per week in order to stay on top of the gardens output, I’m sure I will end up giving many veggies away this season as well, but that’s OK too! (One of my good friends has been helping me out a lot with the garden and certainly deserves to partake of it’s bounty!) I will do my best to post as often as possible, although this is the busy time of the year!
I urge you to do all you can to reduce, reuse, and recycle and get into a homesteading mindset no matter how small (or large) it might be. Goodbye for now!!
Happy Homesteading !!
Peace and Prosperity,,,,
